ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Our client, based in Gibraltar, is looking for an experienced Legal Counsel to join their team supporting their rapidly growing games studio.
Your key job responsibilities as the Legal Counsel will include:
- Structuring, negotiating and drafting simple and complex commercial agreements for the licensing of online casino software, games and other products (including bespoke development and brand licensing agreements)
- Advising senior stakeholders on the licensing and launch of new products and coordinating and handling all legal aspects (including identifying and mitigating potential risks and drafting appropriate templates for future use)
- Coordinating extensively and on a day-to-day basis for various areas of the business including Corporate, Commercial (Sales), Compliance, Tax, Licensing, Privacy and Information Security
- Evaluating commercial risks, advising the business on how to mitigate these and, where possible, considering and offering alternative and pragmatic solutions
- Advising on the commercial implications of existing contractual obligations
- Developing strong relationships with stakeholders and keeping abreast of internal structural, licensing changes and industry-wide developments.
- Advising on inhouse legal requirements related to all areas of the business including Corporate, Premises, Employment and new market entry
- Ensuring that the template library for online contracts is kept up to date and aiming to create greater efficiencies in the operator contracting process wherever possible
- Undertaking training with Contracting Legal Counsel with the aim of bringing full legal and regulatory compliance function inhouse
- Taking on projects and responsibilities relating to new markets, new licensing regulations and business development in addition to general daily tasks
Requirements for this Legal Counsel job:
- UK or Gibraltar Solicitor qualification with 2 to 5 years PQE
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills and ability to articulate complex issues in simple and clear terms
- Enthusiastic about taking ownership of projects and becoming proactively involved in all legal aspects
- Keenness to make a positive impact on the business, continuously looking for ways to improve existing processes, suggest and implement new processes which will lead to greater efficiencies and productivity
- Comfortable working in a startup environment with the ambition needed to help build the business from the ground up in order to achieve significant growth in the next 5 years
- Pro-active and driven attitude, comfortable liaising with and advising senior management
- Ability to make reasoned judgements which balance risks and quickly problem solve
- Excellent attention to detail and prioritisation skills with a proven ability to meet demanding deadlines
- Ability to keep abreast of legal developments and changes in market practice
- Comfortable working in a face paced and highly regulated environment
- A foundation understanding on intellectual property licensing
- A background in the gambling industry is desirable
- Ability to foster strong, transparent and constructive relationships with stakeholders and internal teams to ensure wide engagement on all legal matters
